MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com)- TDOT workers have been out since this morning preparing interstates and major routes with salt brine. The Memphis Public Works Department spent the weekend spraying a salt solution on roads, overpasses and inclines, all in an effort to keep roads from freezing.
A few flakes of snow started falling in Memphis a little after noon, and followed by sleet.
The lack of snow this winter means a larger stockpile of salt solution for Memphis Public Works.
Robert Knecht says there's enough to last the rest of the year. Even though workers sprayed a salt solution on roadways already, trucks are on standby.
“When we get some winter precipitation those trucks will be put into service and they'll start driving those routes and checking those locations to make sure there's no need to put salt and sand down,” Knecht said.
