MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) — A state prosecutor has been severely wounded in an attack in her Memphis home.

The TBI confirmed 40-year-old Kate Edmands was attacked Wednesday. She remained in critical condition Monday night.

Vince Higgins, the spokesman for Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich, said officials have been able to talk with Edmands in the intensive care unit.

Higgins declined to speculate about whether the attack might have been retaliatory.

Due to her relationship with the Memphis Police Department and officers who have testified in her court cases, TBI will be investigating the case at Weirich's request.

Edmands is a native of Camden, Maine. She joined the prosecutor's office in Memphis in 2008.
