MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - There were smiles all around for Memphis city school kids. Students at UT's College of Dentistry offered free check-ups and other services on February 3, 2012.
"Give Kids a Smile Day" is a nationwide event that offers free dental care to children from low-income families across the US. Students from the Memphis Academy of Health Sciences were among those who took part in the clinic.
"One of the things that we as parents sometimes, we neglect our children's teeth, not making sure that they're not only healthy as far as their bodies but their mouths as well," MAHS Middle School principal, Dr. Tonya Biles, told abc24.com. "So we're just thrilled that they thought enough of us to include us as far as this fantastic opportunity. We're very excited about it."
The UT College of Dentistry provides low-cost care to about 30,000 people a year across the Mid-South. They have clinics in Memphis, West Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee.
