MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - With over half a million online votes, Make a Splash Mid-South's water safety video has earned the city a $5,000 grant to provide free children's swimming lessons and a special visit from Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones.
In September, Memphis will be the final stop of the Make a Splash with Cullen Jones Tour, a national water safety tour designed to educate parents, kids and communities about the importance of learning to swim. Make a Splash Mid-South was formed in 2008 following the deaths of two teens in swimming pools.
Jones will teach a swimming lesson while in Memphis. Details regarding his visit will be announced this fall. Jones has qualified for the Olympic Games in London in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 400 Free Relay events.
Make a Splash Mid-South competed against groups in Brunswick, Ga., Irvington, N.J., Landover, Md. and St. Paul, Minn.
