Memphis Tow Truck Driver Attacked: Blames New City Law

The city councilman who sponsored the new wrecker legislation says tow truck drivers just need to use common sense.

Do a quick search on Superior towing and you'll see they have a shady history of hooking up vehicles without just cause, then charging the owners outrageous towing and storage fees....this 'attack' sounds fishy.

Regarding the content of the story: You can't tell me that the new laws are making this business any more dangerous than it already was. In fact, I'll bet following the legal process makes it LESS dangerous! "Inconvenient" isn't a good enough argument for amending the law! Regarding the quality of the story: "When [you're] getting close to the target, you are going to get a whole lot of fire," he says, "so we're getting a whole lot of fire." How about you work on your grammar?

This is definitely fishy considering this quote from a previous ABC24 article: ""Somebody is going to get hurt," says Heather Guess with Superior Automotive and Towing. "Until this is amended, someone is going to end up hurt before this is all said and done with, I promise you that.""

All of them have operated like they are above the law, and have done things that were against the law. We need even tougher law against them. It’s a money racket that’s needs to include having a clean criminal record to the list.

It's about time the city did something about these crooked tow operators. I only hope the state of Tennessee will follow suit & that the city council will stick to their guns & not give in to crooked tow operators, who will charge you $400 or more to retrieve your vehicle after a few days, and that doesn't even include the towing fee, that's just their so-called "storage" fees.

I agree with JeffersonTao...........had these companies not gotten way out of control there would have been no need for this. I doubt many are going to feel sorry for these folks.

Sounds pretty suspicious to me. She's been quoted in other articles making a stink about this. Sounds like she fabricated the whole story to make prove her point. Where are the criminal charges? Where are the photos? Where is the police statement? All a bunch of malarkey in my opinion.

It's the irresponsible tow companies that made this law necessary.
