SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - It's a typical movie munchie that one Mid-South couple now sells full-time. They've set up shop in Southaven making popcorn for a living.
"It's a gourmet popcorn made fresh here everyday," says Gina McClinton. She and her husband own Yum Yum's Gourmet Popcorn off Highway 51 in Southaven. They make specialty flavors from scratch.
"That was something we don't have here in Memphis or Southaven," McClinton tells abc24.com. The couple got the idea from a friend and business partner who owns a popcorn store in Chicago.
They've been open three months and say Mid-Southerners are eating it up. "Our most popular is the cheese caramel mix," McClinton says.
Other varieties include flavors like caramel cashew and caramel pecan. The family started their business in June and has "been increasing every day, every week more and more."
They sell kernels hot out of the popper in the store or they cater events and parties.
"People seem to like it. They all come back, talk about how they're addicted to it," she says.
The McClintons are even finalizing plans to open a shop soon in the Oak Court Mall in Memphis.
"We're going to keep popping," she laughs.
