MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Spring is still 62 days away, but the Mid-South has already had several days with temperatures in the 60’s. The mild winter has helped keep energy bills lower than last winter, but the weather has Mid-South heating companies sweating.

John Conway, General Manager of Conway Services, says, “We do have a very weather-related business. It shouldn't be 69 degrees in January in Memphis.”

Winter of 2010 was a cold and snowy season for the Mid-South. Conway Heating and Cooling Services, on average, ran 30 to 40 service calls a day when furnaces were running nonstop. This winter, they have about half of that number.

“Normally, this would be a big time for us when we would be replacing furnaces that we're not replacing right now,” says Conway. “If it's not cold outside, they're not operating and they're not breaking down.”

To make up for slow business, Conway says they are ramping up advertising and special January and February deals. They are encouraging Mid-Southerners to get their HVAC systems ready for spring by having them cleaned.

“It's just like your car. It needs to be maintained and if you don't maintain it, it will break down on you whether it's in the heating mode or in the cooling mode,” says Conway.

Conway Services has been in business for 22 years. John Conway says they can handle the ups and downs with a mild winter, but that summers are always hot in the Mid-South and business will undoubtedly ramp back up then.
