MILLINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - Transmission Doctors in Millington is once again in the middle of a criminal investigation.
On December 8, 2011, Millington Police concluded a 5-month narcotics investigation after complaints of "walk up" drug transactions at many local businesses. In all, 65 criminal indictments were handed down to 14 suspects charged with selling cocaine, marijuana and prescription narcotics.
Five Millington businesses were included in the indictments, along with their owners:
SuperNavy Market, 4751 Navy Rd
Millington Liquor, 5073 Navy Rd
JetWay Market, 5425 Navy Rd
Transmission Doctors, 5076 Easley
Regency Inn, 6315 Navy Rd
In August 2011, the TBI dug up much of the property at Transmission Doctors after soil samples revealed a carcinogenic chemical compound. Benzene was found in high concentrations due to the improper removal of underground gas tanks.
The business was also the alleged backdrop of a gambling ring involving Millington Mayor Richard Hodges and other public officials. The owner of Transmission Doctors, Marlin Roberts, came out as a TBI informant in a 10-month investigation of misconduct at city hall. Mayor Hodges was arrested for two counts of bribery as a result of that investigation on October 12, 2011.
