MILLINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - A man shot his neighbor's dog with a BB gun on Sunday, October 17, 2011, around 5:20 p.m. in Millington.

An affidavit says 67-year-old Samuel Alexander walked a few blocks down Benjestown Road with a BB gun to a neighbor's home and walked onto the neighbor's back porch. THe neighbor told Alexander to get off his property.

The document says that's when Alexander shot his neighbor's dog 3 times with the BB gun. When police arrived, they noticed blood spots on the dog's body that were caused by BBs.

Alexander admitted to police that he went to the neighbor's house and shot the dog.

The affidavit does not give any reason why Alexander shot the dog.

Alexander was charged with reckless endangerment and cruelty to animals.

"THAT MAN" and "SAMMY BOY" as you refer to him is my uncle and he is a good man. He has raised dogs for many years. I have seen him go outside in the cold while I was visiting checking to make sure the heating devices he had fixed for them were working properly in their dog houses and taking great care to build adequate shelter as well seeing that they got their vaccinations, food and health care. He would rather the dog experience a sting on the behind for a few seconds than a car hit him and cause REAL suffering or death. He has given much to his community making sure people had food and clothing. Get off of your soap box and write about the real criminals in Millington. What have you done for the poor and hungry lately????

Get your facts straight before printing a story. It was his dog and the guy down the road had been feeding it which was why the dog kept wanting to get out (not that the dog wasn't being fed at home but it wanted to eat at BOTH places). This dog wasn't a pet but a working dog to protect the sheep. The dog had to crawl under barb wire to get out. Mr. Alexander shot the dog twice with a BB gun from a distance to create a sting and head the dog home. He was trying to teach the dog that it was not where it should be and he couldn't call it over to hit the dog which would have only caused it to fear him. He wasn't trying to hurt it but to teach it without having it associate the sting with him. Remote shock collars work the same way but they are not practical to use on farm animals where there are long distances between you and the animal at times. No blood was drawn from the bb. The dog had minor injuries from going under the barb wire and also from fighting with the other 2 anatolian shepherds when eating. There was no animal abuse and certainly no reckless endangerment. The man who called the cops was DRUNK and is a nuisance. Why in the world taypayer dollars are used in this manner just shows how far the USA has gone downhill. And everyone is quick to jump on a bandwagon without taking the time to actually get the facts.

Sam attends our church and my son's father often works for him. First of all, it was his own dog. Second, he was chasing it back home after the neighbor requested the dog be removed from his yard. Third, the blood spots were most likely from when it dug it's way under the fencing which has barbed wire to keep in the sheep (it's a working dog). Fourth, although Sam is an old-school, country boy type, and I agree that a BB being used is a little much, the dog was no more hurt from being "chased" home that it was shoving it's own body through the fence it knew it was not to be out of. Lastly, the neighbor did not tell him to get off his property, but not the shoot the dog on his property. Maybe true news should have some truth in it?

I have known Mr. Alexander for a number of years, and find it difficult to believe that he went up on someone's private property and shot his neighbor's dog for any reason. Sounds to me someone is making stuff up.

You best not come to my house and try that Sammy. You'll look mighty uncomfortable walking away with that BB gun inserted about 2 feet into your ascending colon.

That boy, Samuel, has NO business playing with a firearm in such a manner, especially when it comes to harming a defenseless animal....a cat I could understand, but not a dog....
