MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The co-owners of Mo' Money Tax Service are formally apologizing for a tax return mess that continues to anger hundreds of customers.

In an email sent to reporters on Wednesday night, the company for the first time accepted some responsibility for the delay.

"Like all tax companies around the country, we  have  been affected by recent IRS delays," co-owners Markey Granberry and Derrick Robinson wrote. "We also had our own technical issues and we are deeply sorry for the confusion."

The apology comes the same day Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) joined Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) formally asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate Mo' Money.

The co-owners fired back.

"We must make it blatantly clear that at no time was any Licensee that is a part of the Mo' Money/MoneyCo USA brand instructed to do any fraudulent or illegal activity," they wrote. "We stand by our organization and stress that no one within our organization is personally holding any funds of any tax payers."

Wednesday was a good day for Mo' Money. It handed out more than 100 tax refund checks, the most since customers started complaining last week.

"I've been like 5 or six places trying to get it cashed," said Lakeshua Johnson outside a Southaven check-cashing store.

Johnson was finally successful.

"It feels good, I got my money now! I got my check cashed, I feel good!!" she said.

Company officials say they hope to release more checks by Friday.

The IRS and police in Norfolk, Virginia continue to investigate the company.
