MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis mom was arrested after she and a friend were caught smoking marijuana in her car, windows rolled up, with her 2-year-old child in the backseat.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, an officer patrolling around the Westwood Community Center noticed a vehicle backed in to a parking space behind the building after the center had closed. When the driver noticed the officer she attempted to drive away but was stopped. When she rolled down her window the officer noted in the affidavit there was a strong odor of marijuana and smoke billowed out. The officer also saw a small boy in the back in an unsecured child seat.
The driver, 25-year-old Michelle Ball, and a juvenile passenger were detained by police. Officer's called an ambulance to the scene when they had difficulty waking up Ball's two-year-old son. Once the child was checked out by paramedics the released him to the care of the suspect's mother.
Ball and the juvenile were both placed under arrest. According to the affidavit Ball stated at her arrest, "I don't know what the problem is. We only hit the blunt once each and then y'all came rolling up."
Michelle Ball was charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Child, DUI, Child Endangerment and Violation of Child Restraint Law. She has since been released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court October 15.
