GERMANTOWN, TN (abc24.com) - The wait is over for iPhone fanatics. Apple released its newest iPhone 5 on Friday, September 21.

Massive crowds camped out for their chance to buy it, even after pre-order sales reached two million in just one day.

“I'm being gentle, careful,” Cadarius Buckingham said while removing the newest tech craze from its box. “I love it. I don't know, I'm speechless.”

Apple enthusiasts waited hours, bearing boredom and a chilly night before getting their gadgets.

For Luis Higareda it was love at first sight.

“It's really light and it's a lot thinner than any phone I've ever had and the build quality, even though it's so light, the build quality feels amazing,” Higareda said.

So was it worth the wait? For Hemanshu Bhardwaj, "I think it was. It was yes. Absolutely."

More than hundred people camped out at the Apple store in Germantown. Only a handful of customers were allowed in the store at a time. Security was tight in light of recent iPhone muggings and break-ins at Apple stores.

The iPhone has its flaws, most notably, glitches with its new map. But consumers like Chris Bodan say the phone's features like its larger screen size outweigh its shortcomings.

"When you've got big fat fingers like me you want to be able to push the buttons a bit easier so I think that's going to be the big selling point of this phone,” Bodan said.

Apple is expected to sell more than 10 million iPhones by Monday and provide a much needed boost to the economy.

I don't even have a smart phone. I just haven't felt the need. Maybe I will sometime, not yet. I know I won't wait in line for it.

How.... sad. Remember when people used to actually BECOME adults (& WAY sooner in life)?!

Such childish glee over a new toy says something bad about our society.
