MEMPHIS, TN— One stabbing, 4 people arrested for beating up an officer, and 8 people shot. All of that has happened outside or near Club Crave on Beale Street in the past couple of months. The latest act of violence happened early Sunday morning when Memphis Police say a 24 year old man was stabbed after leaving the club. He’s in critical condition at the MED. Police say the victim was confronted by several men as the club closed. During an argument, police say it led to the stabbing. Memphians are sick and tired of hearing the long list of problems at the club.

“Close that club down. A lot of troublemakers go in there,” said Xavier Gillie who lives near the club.

A few weeks ago two people were shot after leaving Club Crave. Police say it was a drive-by shooting. In mid-October nearly a dozen people were arrested for fighting. A week later, 4 people were arrested after attacking an off-duty Memphis cop. Then in September, 6 people were shot in the club’s parking lot. The accused shooter was charged with attempted second-degree murder.

“It’s very sad. I’m sorry to hear that there have been problems,” said a tourist walking by the club George Nixon.

But it’s nothing new for people who live here.

“Something always happens in there, so I’m not surprised,” said Gille.

So why is there so much violence at the club? Gille believes it just attracts the wrong type of crowd.

“It’s close and convenient for most people to get down here,” he said.

Tourists are on high alert, especially during the night hours.

“Now that we are aware of it, we’ll walk a little more leery,” said Nixon.

No one has been arrested in the Sunday morning’s stabbing. Police say the investigation is ongoing. Club Crave opened in August. It was previously known as the “Plush Club.” It’s been the scene of shootings and fights for years.

I don't blame vilence on rap. It's just a coincidence that the only people who like gangsta rap are violent morons with no social skills. Any and all conflict ends in physical violence when dealing with exceptionally stupid people.

Gangsta rap has EVERYTHING to do with glorifying street violence and murder. Practically every single gangsta rap lyric has violence in it. Violent video games are the training tool, and gangsta rap is the soundtrack. Welcome to American materialism.

Gangsta rap has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this club violence. There was violence long before there was gangsta rap. Poor choices, alcohol and testosterone are to blame here. They need to close the club, fine the owners for every incident or take their liquor license. To blame music for the rise of violence is not only asinine, but shortsighted and a little racist.

Close this club and they'll find another.

Being "Black" I truly understand the comments posted here about how this club is obviously getting a pass, and the question is why? So who is the owner of this club, and why is it not closed down? This club continues to give Beale Street and other businesses in the area a bad name. Is it because it's a predominantly "Black" club, and the acts are generally Black on Black; if not, then what is it? You refused the guy a license to open his business in "Cordova" with no other excuse other than it was located in Cordova, yet you allow this business to continue business as usual. What's wrong with this picture? Who ever this club owner has in his pocket, it's time for them to say enough is enough, sooner or later they are going to bring them down with the club. Get the picture!

Strip clubs and any business of a "sexual" nature are harrassed and/or forced to close. Yet this club is allowed to remain open even though people are getting stabbed and shot there. What's wrong with this picture? Is the club getting a free pass because it's a black business? Ya think? No wonder Beale Street is suffering. I sure as hell wouldn't take any of my out of town visitors there.

More crime and violence from the culture of gang glorification. Gangster rap encourages such behavior. We live in a time when violence, cruelty, greed and selfishness are considered virtues.

"So why is there so much violence at the club?" Because it's a black club.
