PANOLA COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - There's a murder mystery in Mississippi.

74-year old Thomas Schlender from Nebraska was shot and killed driving down Interstate 55 early Tuesday morning near the town of Pope in Panola County. Investigators have no clue who did it or why.

John Champion, District Attorney for Panola County, told abc24.com, "All we have right now is a classic murder mystery… I've never seen anything like this."

Samantha Saldana works at Cody's Travel Stop right off exit 237 where Schlender was found dead. She drives to work from Horn Lake everyday but from now on she says her commute will be different.

"I'm gonna be a lot more cautious when driving on the expressway because I don't know who's driving beside me or what they're gonna do," she said.

Schlender was driving a red 1999 Ford F-150 pickup with a camper shell on the back. If anyone has any information regarding the shooting contact the Panola County Sheriff or the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
