MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The trial of a woman charged with murdering her baby daughter began Monday morning.

Shakara Dickens is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Lauryn.

Lauryn disappeared more than a year ago. Dickens has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In September 2010, Dickens, who was 19 at the time, told police that she gave her 11-month-old daughter to an unknown woman sent by the father. Investigators later determined that Dickens was lying about her daughter's whereabouts.

She was arrested on charges of child abuse, and filing a false report, and then she was later indicted on first-degree murder.

Investigators have not said publicly whether they've found the baby's body.
