JONESBORO, AR (abc24.com) - Call it the missing 3 minutes.

The Jonesboro Police Department is releasing new video as part of its investigation into how a hand-cuffed Southaven man died in the back of one of its patrol cars. But the brand new video brings brand new questions, not for what it shows, but for what it doesn't.

Chavis Carter, 21, died after he was pulled over following a July 28th traffic stop. He suffered from a gun shot wound to the head.

"What we are trying to do is just get answers," said Ben Irwin, a lawyer now representing the family of Carter.

Police maintain Carter, despite being searched twice, managed to hide a gun. Carter's family maintains he was murdered.

As tensions mounted, police first released a re-enactment meant to show it is possible for a handcuffed person to shoot themselves.

"We are assuming so many times that this gun was on him, and missed, we don't know where that gun came from," Irwin said.

On Thursday, the department released video from the dash-cameras from the two responding officers. Carter's family and others quickly pointed out the video ends before Carter's death.

On Friday, Jonesboro Police released even more dash-camera video. This video is from when the officers find Carter clinging to life.

Abc24.com analyzed the video and found the first clip ends at 10:41 p.m. on July 28th. The second clip picks up at 10:44 p.m. on the same night.

"We don't want to guess at something like this, we don't want to guess at the loss of a human life as to what happened, and we shouldn't have to," Irwin said.

Jonesboro Police couldn't be reached for comment Friday night regarding the missing 3 minutes.
