MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) – Despite their promises, customers at Mo' Money Taxes got no money for their tax refunds.
They're still waiting in southwest Memphis for refund checks after a computer glitch held up the process.
People who filed with Mo' Money Taxes said the company didn't do its part in telling them what was going on. Now the company claims the problem is solved. But is it?
If you ask many of Mo' Money's customers, the answer is simply no.
They don't have their refund checks and they said the blame is not with the IRS, but Mo' Money Taxes.
Customer Stephanie Haralson said, “I haven't received anything and it's been what, four weeks now?”
“He told me in four days he got me covered, I came back and they gone,” said another customer, Maurice Williams.
“A lot of people are angry because they want an explanation more than anything,” Haralson added.
Frustrations were boiling over delayed tax refunds at another Mo Money Taxes location on 3rd Street and Brooks Road.
For two days, customers waited outside a locked office hoping for good news, but received none.
“I am very upset, because I have been calling and calling they will not give us a response,” said Katrice Nelson.
ABC 24 News went there and didn't fare much better. We called the corporate office, and were assured things were ok and a manager would soon be on the way.
Mo' Money Taxes opened up about three hours late. We talked with an employee inside who said the missing tax refund issue has been settled and the checks are being printed. Even so, people still left the office empty-handed.
“They telling me now the 14th, and the IRS said they already cut the check so it’s something they got going on with them,” one customer said.
Randy Hutchison from the Better Business Bureau said the only thing going on with Mo' Money is "mo' problems."
“We get complaints about them every year, and it's tax time,” Hutchison said.
He said it's time for Mo' Money customers to wise up.
“It's a company that's had a bad record and an F rating with us for a number of years.”
There was a delay caused by the IRS computer system, but it said that should only affect people who filed before January 26th. If you filed after that, you should receive your tax refund on time.
