MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis police officer has been relieved of duty as MPD investigates allegations he sexually assaulted a woman while off duty.
According to a police spokesperson, the 21-year-old victim told investigators she met with the off-duty officer, who was an acquaintance, on Beale Street around 3 a.m. on Sunday, January 20. She said she left Beale to go home, but did not leave with the officer or tell him where she lived. She admitted she was intoxicated at the time and did not remember everything, but told police the officer showed up at her house and possibly sexually assaulted her.
The officer, whose identity has not been released, was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
