MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - An off-duty Memphis police officer was cited after he hit a squad car in the police station parking lot.

The accident occurred in the Airways Station parking lot around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 30. An MPD spokesperson stated 23-year-old Brandon Woodson was off duty when he hit the police car with his personal vehicle. While completing the accident report, it was discovered that Woodson's driver's license was suspended.

Records show Woodson's license was suspended in October 2011 due to Failure to Pay Child Support. It has since been reinstated following the accident.

Woodson, who has been with the Memphis Police Department since April 2010, received a misdemeanor citation for driving on a suspended license. He has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.

@Equality30 Are you stupid? Did you not see where it says it was due to a child support issue regarding a case that was already closed? Isn't the license under such circumstances supposed to be immediately reinstated? Why wasn't it? Of course, you know this already, though. I know him personally and know that Woodson has full custody of his children. How does one not take care of children living under his roof? The real story here is: *Insert attended school system here* failed you and your reading comprehension skills.

It said it was suspended due to failure to pay his child support payments...which is worst than failure to pay a driving violation ticket. Man up and take care of your kids!

It's so easy to believe any and everything thats reported in the media, without question. The media is so hung up reporting negative stories about the MPD, until they'll jump on any tidbit of info they can get without one consideration to that person's reputation. If there's dirt to report, then let it be reported, but get the facts first. Officer Woodson didn't cause the accident, nor was aware that his license was suspended. I hope the true facts will soon be reported, just like this negative story was reported. And for the person that posted it was probably due to bad driving, well, I guess youre probably the only adult that's never been in a fender bender in your life, because you drive perfectly. What a negative thing to say about something you know nothing about. To the question of why his license was suspended, it was because of a chold support issue. Not because he doesn't support his kids, but because he married the mother of his children and ysomehow child support was accruing even though he had been married for a while. When he went to JC, the reinstatement of his license should have been resolved, but someone failed to report it to the proper dept. He wasn't aware of this situation. As for the big "crash," how much of a crash do you honestly think could happen in a PARKING LOT?! The public needs to wake up to the fact that it's very common for the media to sensationalize stories that are hot topics. The MPD may have a few bad apples in it, but every case is not the same. And yes, they can change the entrance requirements, but what they also need to do is raise the pay. That job isn't easy, and Tony Armstrong is not to blame for actions or decisions of those officers. I'll bet that if everyone was monitored on there jobs, and ever time something went wrong your name and face was publicly slandered, you wouldn't be so quick to judge everone eles. The point is, no one is there to report your screw-ups, which everyone on every job has.

Memphis news outlets should post a link back to the story of how the city council is regretting lowering the MPD hiring standards in 2008 when these almost daily MPD lawbreaker of the week (on in this weeks case of the day) stories run.

I'd say bad driving likely led to his driver's license suspension. Either from accidents or citations from other districts.
