MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis police officer accused of rape was in court Thursday morning.
Cornelius Monger is accused of raping a teenager. The reported victim is his relative.
Monger did not have an attorney so his bond arraignment has been put on hold for a month; he'll be back in court in February.
Police Director Toney Armstrong did not mince words when he issued a statement about the accusations.
"It sickens me to know that an officer of the law has violated the innocence of a child. This individual calls himself a Memphis Police Officer; I call him a criminal."
Monger has been relieved of duty. He's been with the Memphis Police Department since 2006.
