MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 17th, police responded to a theft in the 1900-block of Willow Wood Ave in Frayser. According to police, the officers were on the scene talking to the 26-year-old female victim who said the father of her children had stolen her purse.
While the officers where talking to the victim, the suspect involved in the theft, Irving Guy, returned to the scene of the crime.
One officer approached the driver's side of the vehicle Guy was driving and asked him to exit the car. As Guy was exiting the vehicle, the officer attempted to place him under arrest. Irving Guy refused to be taken into custody or exit the vehicle.
When the officers attempted to remove Guy from the vehicle, he put it in reverse and drove off at a high speed. The officer that was in between the open driver's side door and the frame of the vehicle grabbed on to avoid serious injury, causing him to be dragged by the vehicle.
Eventually, the car hit several fixed objects which threw the officer from the car and onto a sidewalk. Irving Guy abandoned the car and made a run for it on foot into the nearby woods. Additional officers came to the scene and searched the area, but they were not able to locate Guy.
Irving Guy currently has five active misdemeanor charges separate from this incident. He was driving a 1997 green Nissan Maxima. The officer involved was transported to The MED in stable condition. He has since been released.
