MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis police officer directing traffic outside an elementary school was taken to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning.

The officer was struck by a white Dodge Durango around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4 at Oak Forest Elementary School, and transported to The MED with non-critical injuries.

Investigators say the driver, 25-year-old Jonathan Ferguson, was attempting to pass stopped vehicles on South Germantown Road by driving in the emergency lane when he hit the officer.

Ferguson remained on the scene, and was issued misdemeanor citations for Driving on a Suspended/Revoked/Canceled License, Violation of Vehicle Registration Law, Driving in an Emergency Lane and Improper Lane Change.
