MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - An off duty Memphis police officer is back home from the hospital after he was run over by suspected shoplifters over the weekend.
The officer was at the Nike Warehouse in Whitehaven on March 4 shopping with his family when he and the security officer tried to apprehend two male shoplifting suspects. The suspects ran out of the building and tried to drive away, and ran over the off duty officer in the process. He was transported to The MED in non-critical condition.
The security officer, who is also an MPD officer working security as a second job, was not injured.
The off duty officer was able to fire one shot, but it is not known if the suspects or their vehicle was hit.
The suspects, described as two black males and one female who was already in the car, remain at large. They fled the scene in a small gray car, possibly a Toyota.
