OLIVE BRANCH, MS (abc24.com) - It's a working holiday for many, including those who protect and serve.
A church in Olive Branch is making sure the town's firefighters, police and EMTs have plenty to eat this Thanksgiving. Members of the Great Commission Church delivered four, huge Thanksgiving meals to the city's heroes on Thanksgiving morning.
25 firefighters are working this holiday. They gathered at the Hacks Cross Fire Station to eat. The men and women sat down to turkey, dressing and every side dish you can imagine.
Volunteers who cooked the food say it's a way of recognizing the sacrifices they make, including all the long hours and holidays they work.
"It's something they can count on," says Kimberley Fullwood. "We can count on them every single day to be there for us in an emergency. They look forward to this every year and their families come, so it's just a nice opportunity to take a break. I think they love it."
"It's good to have all this food," says Captain Jared Kelly. "It makes it nice for us since we're not home with our families."
Church members have delivered this meal for the last 12 years. They started planning the feast more than a month ago.
