OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - Olive Branch police have been awarded $194,000 from the Department of Homeland Security for SWAT equipment and training.

Police Chief Don Gammage tells The Commercial Appeal the grant is the largest the department has ever received.

Olive Branch operates a SWAT unit with an eight-member core group. In addition to their regular police duties, members are allotted hours monthly to train for high-risk incidents.

Grants like this one have been awarded to local municipalities from time to time by Homeland Security since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
