One Dead in Midtown Memphis House Fire

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - One person is dead after fire broke out at a rooming house in the midtown area of Memphis Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to Jefferson Avenue and Claybrook Street around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

As firefighters searched the home, they found the body of a man in a 2nd floor bedroom. The victim's identity has not been released, and a cause of death report is pending from Shelby County Medical Examiner's office.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators are still working to determine what started the fire. Six residents at the rooming house received assistance from the Red Cross.
