MEMPHIS, TN --Tennessee State Senator Ophelia Ford is making headlines, after her latest rant. It came during a Senate discussion about whether to increase penalties for assaults on health care workers.

Ford says nurses were mean and treated her badly while she was in the hospital.

Her actions have people in her district, which stretches from Millington to South Memphis, talking.

In Millington, Holly Oliver told abc24.com, "we need to pay attention to who we put in office."

Harbor Town resident Jill Seifried says, "she is our representative she needs to be dignified."

In Whitehaven the mood and opinions people had of Ford were different.

Whitehaven resident Matthew Simmons voted for Ford. He told abc24.com "Ophelia is a dedicated and loyal person. When she's reacting it's because something is not right."

She needs to be drug tested when she starts ranting like that. It sounds like words coming from a drug induced person.

I think you just secured the vote of 70% of the Memphis population just for saying the words "free Jack Pirtles Chicken"

If you have a problem with her get off your ASSETS and run for her seat or shut UP and take it like a weak men or woman should.

So, was she argueing that people who assault medical professionals shouldn't be punished? It's hard to tell because the woman can barely be understood when she speaks. "Ophelia is a dedicated and loyal person. When she's reacting it's because something is not right." Aside from the word "person", this sounds just like someone defending a rabid dog.

Yet another example of why we must leave this city. This is another example of the inferior culture that dominates this area.

"Ophelia is a dedicated and loyal person. When she's reacting it's because something is not right." Yes, but we expect our representatives to react like adults, not like children. I'm embarrased and ashamed to even hear her voice and the illogical babble that comes out of her. please people, VOTE HER OUT!

Ever since the "changing of the guard" we experienced a few years ago in Memphis politics, we have never been at a loss for entertaining news items to laugh at. We must laugh, otherwise we would be crying all the time.
