MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - “Oscar Experience Memphis" is one of just a handful of events officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The event this year served as a huge fundraiser benefitting the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.

Ronald McDonald House of Memphis serves more than six hundred families each year who have a child fighting cancer or another catastrophic illness at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Executive Director Caron Byrd says the families come from all around the world; some stay up to 3 months, and housing and meals are all free of charge.

“We want to be able to provide them with everything they need right here at Ronald McDonald House and say you take care of your child let us take care of the rest,” Byrd told ABC 24.

The average cost per family is about $2,500 so donations are critical to the success of their mission. The Oscar night event brought in more than $100,000 through dinner tickets sales, along with a live and silent auction.
