MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It took 19 hours, but a standoff in Whitehaven finally ended with the suspect is behind bars Sunday morning.

23-year-old Dimitris Wells is charged with Emergency Commitment and Aggravated Assault.

It started Saturday, September 29 when police were called to 1300-block of Mary Jane just before 1 p.m. for a domestic dispute between a brother and sister.

Wells' sister told police he assaulted her inside the home, then barricaded himself and his 5-year-old child inside.

Just before 9 a.m. Sunday TACT officers safely entered the home and took Wells into custody; the child was unharmed.

Neighbors told ABC24 News that Wells is schizophrenic.
