SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP, abc24.com) - The attorney general's office has told a citizens' group in Southaven that nothing in state law allows for the removal of a municipal official.
The Commercial Appeal reports that Concerned Citizens of Southaven has collected about 1,000 signatures demanding the removal of Greg Davis, under fire for allegedly misspending thousands of dollars in public funds.
Organizers have based their effort on a state law that addresses the removal of elected officials from county offices by the governor.
Tommy Hurst, a member of the group, says an attorney has told the group the statute applies to municipal officials.
However, Jan Schaefer, spokeswoman for Attorney General Jim Hood, says municipal officials are not covered by that law. Her comment was not an official opinion from the attorney general's office.
