MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A resident at a Memphis retirement home was arrested Monday after she tried to shoot a fellow resident during an argument.

69-year-old Betty Ford was arrested at the Paul Broda Towers senior living apartments on Monday, October 15 and charged with Aggravated Assault.

According to the police affidavit, Ford had previously confronted the victim with a stun gun over an incident between him and her cousin.

The next day as the victim was taking the elevator to his apartment on the 13th floor, the elevator stopped on the 7th floor where Ford joined him on the elevator and the argument resumed. The victim got out of the elevator on the 13th floor and Ford followed him, yelled "I will kill you n*****!" and pulled a loaded revolver out of her wheelchair backpack. She fired one shot at the victim but missed, hitting a maintenance closet. Nobody was injured.

Officers found a .38 Rossi with four live rounds and one shell casing on Ford, who later admitted to the shooting. Betty Ford has since been released from the Shelby County Jail on $50,000 bond.
