MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Memphis Police Department says Mattie Wilson disappeared without a trace. Wilson was 55-years-old when she vanished four years ago.
It's a case that started July 30th, 2008 at The MED. According to Mattie Wilson's family, she suffered from dementia and had just suffered from a stroke. The family says someone at The MED placed her in a taxi and sent her off.
Catherine Henderson lives on Dumas Street in Frayser. Her home is a couple of doors down from 3584 Dumas, where the taxi dropped off Wilson. Within minutes of arriving Wilson walked off and hasn't been seen since.
"I believe something terrible happened to that poor woman, I don't think she's alive," Henderson said. "I was warned not to even ride my wheelchair down there… if she was let out down there there's no telling what happened to that poor lady."
The house, which at the time was a care home, is no longer standing. Because of a fire, all that's left is the brick foundation and questions about what happened to the 55-year-old.
Wilson is a former secretary for the Memphis City Council, a mother of two and grandmother of nine. Her family is still holding out hope that she is alive.
