MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police are looking for a man they think is responsible for at least six sexual assaults over the past nine years.

The last victim police know of is a 28-year-old woman who was robbed and raped at knife point. Police got a break when the suspect was caught on camera at several Cordova stores using the woman's credit card.

Police say the suspect is a white male, 5'10" to 6'2", 180 to 200 pounds with brown hair and a thin beard. Recent DNA evidence linked him to the rapes of five other victims, all in Cordova.

Cordova resident Vicki Gourgeot says, "I hope they find him and put him away for a long time, forever actually. We have to protect our kids around here. It's a very busy area, people jogging everyday and we need more security up and down the street to protect everybody."

Gourgeot runs nearly every day through her Cordova neighborhood. She never runs alone. "People have to be conscientious of their surroundings," she says, "When we run we make sure there are never parked cars. We walk on the other side of the street if there are. We always go together with somebody, we never go alone. If we happen to see something we'd run to a neighbor, I have no problem jumping the fence if I had to."

According to police the suspect is linked to rapes all the way back to 2003. Tasha Rick is nervous he could still be attacking women. "[I'll be] a little more cautious about where I go. And I won't go places alone. I guess it makes me kind of scared... they need to catch him before he does something else."

Police ask anyone with information on the suspect to contact them immediately.
