MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police arrested a man after a standoff for nearly ten hours at a Whitehaven apartment complex.
Around 8:15am on February 6, 2012, a resident at the Birch Leaf Apartments at Winchester and Graceland Drive notified police after hearing a gunshot. When officers arrived, several residents told them that 29-year-old Brian Gillum was waving a gun around while arguing with his brother. An officer spotted Gillum with the gun; as soon as he realized he had been spotted Gillum ran and locked himself in his apartment.
After refusing to come out, MPD called the TACT Unit to the scene to negotiate with Gillum. Authorities eventually fired tear gas into the suspect's apartment around 6:00pm and took Gillum into custody.
During a search of Gillum's apartment, police recovered ammunition and two guns, one of which had been stolen from the Southaven Police Department in May 2009.
Brian Gillum is charged with Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Vandalism over $500. He is being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 8.
