Memphis: What an corrupt city government made up of unethical people to allow animals to be abused, EVEN WHILE THEY WATCH on security cameras! This is a non-partisan issue, not about one political party or another. It's about allowing vulnerable animals in your care to be abused. Yes, it IS abuse when staff are not using equipment properly and mishandle animals. This a complete lack of leadership. I hope cruelty charges are laid against the mayor like has been done in other cities.

Things will not change until we have responsible pet owners who spay and neuter their pets. Things will not change until people quit throwing away their pets like they are trash. Things will not change until the City and County offer a low cost spay and neuter program for people who can not afford it. Things will not change until the City, County and State create laws that are enforced and stiffened for cruelty to animals. It is not just the MAS that is at fault, we need laws that are enforced, help that is provided to those who can't, restrictions on non neutered pets. It is a collective problem that needs to be addressed. Write your city counsel, state representative, congressman etc. Demand changes by those that represent us. Support animal groups who offer spay and neuter programs, instead of complaining about the situation work for a fix, it is bigger than MAS.

No comment from the city. What can they say? "Oh, yeah, we're about to relive the horrors of 2009 when the shelter was raided, but everything's fine." Or how about the old, "Well, employees need more training and...stuff." Apparently, employees STILL don't know that animals need access to food and water. They also clearly still don't realize that animals should not have to live in their own waste or be mishandled by people who are supposed to be "trained" in animal handling. How long will you let this go on, Mayor Wharton? Right now your legacy is looking very tarnished...
