MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Three men are in custody so far after a spree of auto-burglaries in downtown Memphis and officers are looking for more suspects.
Two incidents occurred on the evening of December 1, 2011. Around 5:30pm, Memphis Police were called to a parking lot on Madison between Third St and Fourth St. 47-year old Jerrard Butler was arrested for stealing cash from a meter box and attempting to break into a 2000 Nissan Sentra. He was charged with Attempted Burglary from Motor Vehicle, Theft of Property under $500, and Criminal Trespass.
Approximately one hour later, officers at the Real Time Crime Center saw two suspects breaking into a 1992 Volkswagen Rabbit at Fourth and Gayoso. Police were dispatched to the scene, and arrested 19-year-old Benjamin Bean and 18-year-old Christopher Taylor. Both were charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.
On December 2nd around 4:20am, officers were called to Fourth and Monroe where a total of fifteen vehicles parked on the street that had been burglarized. So far, no arrests have been made for those break-ins.
