MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - According to a report by the Corporation for Enterprise Development, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas rank among the bottom in the nation for families' well-being.

"It does not surprise me," said Olivia Atkeison, who volunteers at a local food pantry.

She told abc24.com the number of people the pantry helps has increased over the last year. "There are people who 6 months ago were working and now it's not the case."

Robert Hall has worked the same job for 25 years. He said it's not hard for him to believe that millions of people in America don't have a savings account. "Most of us don't have money; you can't save if you're not working," he said.

Bernice Maclin said she has a savings account, as does many of her friends, but she admits her friends have had to use their savings accounts. "A lot of people have dipped into it. It's almost gone and they're hoping luck changes before it's all gone."
