MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A murder suspect is behind bars after a security guard at a Frayser apartment complex chased him down and held him until police arrived.
Memphis police were called to a shooting on the 3100-block of Madewell just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14. When they arrived they found the body of a black male, later identified as Terry Johnson, laying face down with a gunshot wound to his neck.
Investigators say a security guard was doing a routine check of the property when he saw four unknown males standing in a breezeway. As he approached, one on the men pulled out a gun and began firing at the other three people. The guard ran after the suspect, 21-year-old Darryl Claxton, and caught up with him after a short chase. Claxton raised his arms and laid face down on the ground; the guard held him without incident until police arrived.
Darryl Claxton was charged with First Degree Murder. He is being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail.
