Serial Shoplifters Caught Red-Handed on Christmas Eve

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Two suspects arrested for shoplifting at an east Memphis Sears during the last-minute Christmas shopping rush have been linked to several recent thefts.

According to the police affidavit, a security officer at the Sears located at 4570 Poplar observed two people over the video surveillance cameras loading clothes into a shopping cart, and recognized them from a previous store theft. As security called Memphis police, the two suspects pushed their cart to the door where a car was waiting.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested the driver of the getaway car, 42-year-old Mark Williams, and the two theft suspects, 41-year-old Angela Merriweather and 38--year-old Ailone Malone. The value of the stolen goods was $782.

Store security identified Merriweather and Malone as the suspects who stole more than $500 in merchandise on December 11, more than $1,000 of merchandise on December 22, and $2,000 of merchandise on December 23.

Merriweather also admitted to two other recent thefts at a Hibbett Sports and Bargain Hunt, where she stole a combined $2,700 worth of merchandise.

All three suspects were charged with Theft and booked at the Shelby County Jail.

criminals fear nothing. our judicial system is a joke. they should be severly beaten ( hurt really bad ) then they may think twice before doing it again

The stores are just as responsible as anyone for the widespread thievery that occurs. Many of the stores don't even bother to press charges. A friend of mine who is a retail store manager said that businesses such as the clothing stores in malls are robbed blind by shoplifters and that usually nothing is done about it by the stores due to the costs of prosecuting. And the criminals know it.

typical, and i bet they are receiving food stamps, wic, everything in the world, driving a big suv and steal retailers blind so therefore, regular taxpayers will pay the increase of goods due to their actions. POS
