MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The restaurant landscape in midtown Memphis is being supersized. Foodies will soon be able to get their fill at several new restaurants.
Oscar Justice eats lunch with his good friend Woody Simmons four times a week. The midtown resident is excited about new restaurants coming to the area.
"All these building moved in here a lot of artwork going on. It's good for the place," he said. "It's good for the neighborhood."
Panera Bread opened on Union Avenue a few weeks ago. Diners can break bread at Chiwawa when it opens in Overton Square next week. Love Shack on Walnut Grove, which caters to vegetarians, began serving customers last month. And Thursday, Five Guys Burgers and Fries will become the latest eatery to begin operations.
Simmons doesn't love all the new restaurants in midtown. He said, "I think they're going to get too many. They're not all going to make a bunch of money."
Latasha Goodwyn, manager of Five Guys, hopes potential diners don't agree with Simmons.
"We're very excited to be in the midtown area. We're hoping to be jam-packed tomorrow, line out the door, and hopefully we can keep it going," Goodwyn said. "Everyone's been super excited ever since we've been here training. They've been like, 'When are you guys opening?' They think we're already open, they come in wanting the food and I'm ready to serve them."
However parking, especially at Five Guys, will be an issue. That will be resolved when the new parking lot under construction in Overton Square is finished.
