MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Shelby County employee was arrested for stealing and selling personal information of inmates at the Shelby County Jail.

40-year old Sherrita Delbridge was arrested on December 2, 2011, following an indictment by a federal grand jury. She was suspended without pay from the Criminal Justice Center the following day.

Delbridge is accused of stealing the names, addresses and social security numbers of inmates in the criminal justice center's computers, then selling them to another woman. The second suspect, also indicted in the identity theft scheme, was not a county employee.

Sherrita Delbridge has worked as a counselor in the Shelby County Pre-Trial Services Bureau since 2009. She also worked at Shelby County Juvenile Court from 2006-2009, and the Shelby County Health Department in 2005.

I'm pretty sure she is guilty of much more than identity theft. What about the kidnapping of princess Laya, and of course there's the whole having Han Solo frozen in carbonite incident as well. She's got a lot to answer for indeed. When asked if she regretted her crimes, she responded, "Gobba-Da Dooooooooooosh Un-gobba".

Let's discuss this employee of the people for her disgusting behaviour, rather than leave disgusting comments. Greed is the reason for her actions and she should be severely punished for stealing. I believe people in a position of trust have to be accountable for their actions. What is severe punishment depends on what the norm is for this type crime. At a minimum, restitution to those individual adversely impacted by the theft (I know the City is liable) and depending on the amount involved, jail time. In any event, she should not be punished any more severely than a Mayor who wines and dines to the tune of almost $170,000+ unless the amount she realized from the identity theft exceeds that. Both are despicable crimes and are a betrayal of the public's trust!!
