MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Shelby County is providing a place where people can go and drop off their live Christmas trees to be recycled.
Steve Shular with the Shelby County Mayor's Office told abc24.com, "It's free, it's open and it's easy to find." He says those incentives should be motivation enough to make people bring their trees to the county's drop spot. "People like that convenience to be able to go and drop trees and wreaths off at one location."
The drop-off location is the south parking lot at the Agricenter Show Place Arena. Shular said, "This is one of those conveniences the county wanted to offer the citizens of our community."
But unlike Davidson County, where Nashville residents have eleven places to drop off live Christmas trees, Shelby County has just one. Shular told abc24.com that could change "if there's a demand for more places and locations we'll be open to that."
The drop-off spot is open 24 hours a day until January 8th.
