BOLIVAR, TN (abc24.com) - The Hardeman County Sheriff's Office says it has a "person of interest" in the disappearance of a Whiteville mother and her three children.
Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters, Adrienne Bain, 14, Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8, were last seen leaving their Whiteville home on Friday. Bain's SUV was found abandoned on Sunday.
"We believe he has information on the whereabouts of this family," said John Doolan, the Hardeman County Sheriff, during a Wednesday evening news conference.
Doolan says investigators talked with Adam Christopher Mayes, 35, of Guntown, MS, on Sunday. On Tuesday, investigators got a warrant for Mayes, charging him with filing a false report based on statements he gave investigators on Sunday. Investigators say Mayes is now missing too.
"Makes me a little nervous, edgy, ya know? I don't know what to think," said Melvin Heron, who's lived next door the Bain family for at least three years. "[I] see them playing, little girls, see them probably 3 or 4 times a day, very nice kids."
Sheriff Doolan says Bain has not used her phone or credit cards since Friday. He said they are processing her SUV as the span of the investigation widens.
"We are bouncing back from Mississippi to Arizona, to Tennessee," he said.
Doolan say the family was days away from moving to Arizona.
"Foul play, as far as we know there is no sign of foul play, we are not ruling anything out though," the sheriff said. "There is nothing saying you can't move to Mexico and change your name. There's nothing."
"Right now I got a concerned father," the sheriff added, referring to Bain's husband. "I don't care if it is a phone call, if she would just call and tell us I'm ok, I'll get a law enforcement officer to lay eyes on her and it will be over with."
Back in Bain's neighborhood, Heron doesn't know what to think.
"It is just bothering me, got my stomach all nervous and queasy," he said.
Anyone with information on Bain's disappearance is asked to call the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office at 731.658.3971.
