MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Sherwood Elementary School was placed on lockdown after a domestic shooting Thursday morning.

The shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. on the 1100-block of Robin Hood Lane. The school was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution, but no children were injured.

“I was thinking someone got shot or somebody was shooting kids and stuff,” said James Bennett, one of many Sherwood Elementary students on edge after shots were fired outside the school.

Police say a woman dropping off a student at the school stabbed a man after they got into an argument. He grabbed a gun and started shooting. Another man who was with the woman did the same.

“My baby is in a portable right there and when the shooting took place out front it could have easily… I mean, all these children's lives are in danger,” said Clyde Dortch, who had dropped off his granddaughter just moments before it all happened.

The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut prompted many schools to rethink safety protocols. Sherwood recently had students perform safety drills, and Thursday that training was put to use.

“We had to go to the back of the room with the lights off so nobody would see us,” said Sherwood student Neyah Hill.

Aside from the man who was stabbed, no one was hurt. Police are still investigating the incident.

Schools teach non-violence, but the parents practice violence and ignorance in front of their kids...who has more influence and time with raising kids?? Our society, culture, city, etc. won't change without adults/parents changing their attitude, reactions, and behavior FIRST!!!!

I can't for the scriptures to be fulfilled when “No more will violence be heard in [our] land,”. (Isaiah 60:18)

What a splendid parental role models. Put them in jail for a very long time – they fail as parents anyway.
