SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - Ready, set, shop! Plans for Southaven's new outlet mall are moving forward.
There's still an air of mystery around which stores will be there. It's described as upscale and high-end. Locals can't wait, and they're not the only ones. Shoppers are expected to come from states away.
"They're going to take all my money," laughs Kisha Landfair. She already drives from Collierville to Southaven. Once the Outlet Shops of the Mid-South are open, she'll be coming more. "I'm going to be in trouble," she says. "Sorry hubby!"
The outlets are expected to attract thousands to Mississippi. "This will truly be a regional draw for the outlet center," says Mayor Greg Davis.
"It should be," says Jerry Cowley. "We would definitely come," adds Cindy Evans. They're in town from Tupelo and say bargains will bring them back.
At more than 300,000 square feet there's no word yet on what or how many stores are coming.
"It could be fifty stores, could be 100 stores," says planning director Whitney Choat- Cook.
Rumors are swirling. Developers are expected to release specifics in the next month or two. "It's going to be very exciting," says Landfair.
The site plan is set. The closest mall in comparison is located miles away in Alabama. Customers for Mississippi's new addition are expected to drive from all over the Southeast.
"I go to Destin every year at Thanksgiving to hit the big sales," says Davis. "I run into several people from north Mississippi down there. Now we can stay home."
The mall is being built right off I-55 at Church Road. Opening is scheduled for sometime in early 2014.
