SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - Southaven aldermen meet Tuesday to review the receipts Mayor Greg Davis submitted to the Mississippi State Auditor. Their review is part of the state's ongoing civil and criminal investigation.

Each member has been looking at the $44,000 in receipts individually, and will meet as a group for the first time since receiving the dense packets from the state.

Greg Guy, Southaven Alderman-At-Large, stated, "There are definitely some issues we have to work through with making sure we as a board feel comfortable with expenses going forward."

Alderman Guy and Southaven's six other board members have been looking at dates and checking their calendars. The Mississippi State Auditor asked them if they recognize and can verify the expenses on the receipts Mayor Davis submitted.

Davis is being investigated for how he spent $170,000 in city money. He's paid back $96,000; the receipts he handed over total $44,000. After board members submit their findings, the state will determine the final number Davis has to pay.

Last week the auditor's office confirmed Davis charged $67 to a gay sex shop in Canada. That purchase is included in the packet the board is reviewing, as well as receipts totaling $18,000 for alcohol.

So far, aldermen are keeping mum about what they've found.

"Until we get it back to state auditor I feel like it's my duty so that I'm not interfering with the investigation not to comment on any specific expenditures," said Guy.

The meeting is open to the public, but the board plans to talk in private about the receipts.

Guy said they'll discuss then what to make public.

"That will be up to entire board, not one specific person," he said. "It depends on if they want to disclose anything or not."

Once the board combines all of their individual reports on the receipts, Alderman Guy will write a collective summary to send to the state auditor.

Mayor Davis will be leading the meeting but is not expected to speak about the receipts or the investigation.
