SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com)- More money questions for Southaven Mayor Greg Davis.
The latest issue involves the city's Chamber of Commerce. Davis admitted receiving money from the chamber, but no one will say how much he got. The group is now investigating.
The chamber is basically made up of local businessmen and women who network and help promote the city. Southaven's chamber is a private organization, but it receives money from the city --almost 18,700 a month --and it's given thousands to Davis.
You'll find the chamber's office right through the front door of Southaven City Hall. It's located just a few floors below the mayor's office, but it seems the chamber's trying to distance itself from Davis.
The organization's compiled audit reports which show Davis has received thousands from the group, but no one with the chamber will say how much or answer any questions about the money, except to say they're reviewing things.
This comes on top of the state investigation into how Davis spent $150,000 -- money he's been ordered to repay.
Citizens have heard enough.
"It's totally messed up and they shouldn't be doing it," says Brett Leggett. "He's just taking all the money."
The chamber's lawyer says the group won't make anything public until the investigation is complete. We're told they're reviewing everything, and cooperating with all of the appropriate authorities.
Citizens just know Davis is involved in another investigation.
We asked the chamber's lawyer how long their investigation might take. He responded that these things have a life of their own, and wouldn't give us a time table.
