SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - Greg Guy says he'll step down as Mayor Pro Tempore next month to focus more on his regular full-time job.

"The choice to resign as Mayor Pro Tem is strictly economics" Guy said Tuesday night after a lengthy Board of Aldermen meeting.

Earlier this month, Mayor Greg Davis announced he was taking a 30-60 day leave to deal with an undisclosed medical ailment. Since then, Guy has served as the city's acting mayor. Guys says all that work factored in his decision.

"Oh it is huge, and it is simply because of all the time it has now taken up," said Guy.

Guy says he'll remain an alderman. His last day as Mayor Pro Tempore is set for February 7th.
