SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com)- In the wake of the scandal involving Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, the city's aldermen are demanding transparency in public office. Southaven Alderman Ronnie Hale is leading the charge to post more city documents online.
"That's something that's going to start happening this week," he says.
The city will put packets on its website that include information like the board's agenda, previous meeting minutes and what's probably of most interest, the way the city's money is being spent.
"It will come out just like we get it. The exact same packet we get, they'll see all the information from the agenda on down to the full docket," Hale tells abc24.com.
That packet can be anywhere from 30 to 80 pages. Hale says it's one of the reasons the city hasn't posted them before.
"It is a lot of pages. I think it's something we should have had on there," Hale says.
Other cities, smaller ones, like Hernando, have put theirs online for years.
Southaven's move comes on the heels of the civil and criminal investigations into Mayor Greg Davis. Citizens want to know more about how the city's being run.
"We definitely want to do that and make any kinds of moves we can to bring the trust back because we're not trying to hide anything. We want them to see what's going on," Hale says.
The agendas will be posted on Fridays, ahead of Tuesday board meetings.
