SOUTHAVEN, MS --
Strength in numbers. That's the thought behind a Southaven woman's idea to create a new group to keep an eye on the town's politicians.Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is being investigated for misusing more than $100,000 city dollars. The Board of Aldermen has asked him to resign, but so far no response.
The hope is the group will make it easier to get answers.
"I got a lot of phone calls from people that were majorly concerned and those that showed up at the aldermen's twice monthly meeting were not getting answers," says Linda Temple.
So she decided to do something about it. Temple says you can call her a political activist. She's setting her sights on Southaven city government.
"I didn't really feel a need until all this came out after the auditor's investigation," she tells abc24.com.
Temple once worked for a federal judge in DC. She said her eyebrows raised once the state auditor's investigation into Davis became public.
"We have a lot of questions that need to be answered and something needs to be done. Our mayor is not available for any of this. We need to know what's going on with our city," she says.
That's why Temple's putting together a group called Concerned Citizens For Southaven.
"We want to organize so there's a group of us, not just a handful of people asking questions."
She has questions about where Davis is, and what the board of aldermen will do if he doesn't resign.
Temple envisions a group coming together to present their concerns at the twice monthly board meetings.
"We are sincere in knowing this and we have a right," she says. "Our Constitution is based on 'we the people,' not 'we the aldermen' or 'we the mayor.' It's we the people."
The meeting will be held at 6:30 Thursday, January 26th at the Southaven Public Library.
